A thank you from WaterAid for Hill Dickinson's support
"Thank you to everyone at Hill Dickinson for their support of WaterAid in 2008 and 2009. During this time, nearly £60,000 has been raised for WaterAid’s work in Nepal, which is a fantastic achievement!
In 2008, funds raised by Hill Dickinson went to fund the work of NEWAH (Nepal Water for Health), WaterAid’s partner’s organisation working in Nepal. This work included one specific project entirely funded by Hill Dickinson, in Beldanda village, located in Gorkha district of Western Nepal.
With Hill Dickinson’s support, this project was successfully completed, providing the 395 people in the community with access to effective, efficient and sustainable water, health and sanitation facilities to the community, thereby ensuring a better quality of life. The project included water, sanitation and hygiene education activities as well as community capacity building as follows:
- A community water and sanitation committee formed and trained including sessions on gender and social inclusion, monitoring and evaluation and saving and credit schemes
- 9 tap stands, 62 household latrines, 1 school latrine block
- Health and hygiene education sessions held in the local school
- Community health and hygiene campaign
- Training for three masons to build latrines and three caretakers

In 2008, Hill Dickinson also helped WaterAid support NEWAH to establish local SaniMart shops - a local store, where latrine construction materials are sold at affordable rates and information on the various latrine options is given. This has helped to increase sanitation coverage in Nepal.
Elsewhere in Nepal, WaterAid working with its local partners reached 38,000 people with safe water, 39,000 with sanitation facilities, and as a result of hygiene education and sanitation interventions, 23 communities were declared open defecation free (ODF).
