Claims of unlawful workplace discrimination have increased dramatically in recent years and by their very nature these claims can be highly complex, time consuming and costly. The introduction of the Equality Act has brought about more change for employers in this increasingly important aspect of law and practice.
How Hill Dickinson can help
Hill Dickinson’s employment team has extensive experience of all aspects of discrimination, from training managers and advising on preventative strategies to dealing with complaints and investigations and advising on the practical effects of the legislation.
We have a dedicated equal pay team who undertake work predominantly, but not exclusively, for the public sector. We are also on the National Health Service Litigation Authority approved panel of equal pay firms.
Hill Dickinson can provide expert advice and support with:
- Training managers and staff on their legal responsibilities and obligations (to help businesses discharge their statutory ‘reasonable steps’ obligations)
- Auditing existing policies, practices and procedures
- Developing strategies to avoid and prevent discrimination claims
- Drafting and implementing equal opportunities and dignity at work policies
- Managing and investigating discrimination complaints
- Defending claims and tribunal representation

In addition to a raft of internal promotions, Hill
Dickinson LLP’s Liverpool office also acquired a team of four from
Halliwells led by Kerstie Skeaping, adding significant experience
in tribunal hearings, and in trade union matters and industrial
relations. Jeff Middleton now leads the team.
This
team has a strong reputation for advising NHS clients, and it
continues to grow on the corporate side, too. Recent highlights
include representing the Law Society in High Court proceedings
relating to TUPE. Other notable clients include Leeds Teaching
Hospitals NHS Trust, Iceland Foods and the North West Development
Agency.
