Hill Dickinson has a specialist team fully experienced in all aspects of the law relating to care standards.
We are members of the Care Quality Commission's panel of solicitors. Our team advises the Commission on all matters arising from the interpretation and application of the Care Standards Act 2000, the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and all related legislation.
We also assist the Commission with its regulatory and enforcement role in relation to care homes and other care services. This often involves us in assisting with the drafting of statutory requirement notices, notices of cancellation and other statutory notices. We also advise on the gathering of evidence to support such notices.
We represent the Commission at hearings before magistrates’ courts when applications for urgent closures are made. We also represent the organisation at hearings before the Health, Education and Social Care Chamber of the First-Tier Tribunal (previously the Care Standards Tribunal).
The team also advises on mental health and mental capacity issues arising from the provision of care services. This includes advice on the deprivation of liberty safeguards (DOLS).

Hill Dickinson LLP has a large NHS client base
with over 80 clients in the North West region and elsewhere. The
team has also been appointed to all ten lots on the North West NHS
Collaborative Procurement Hub. Practice head Allan Mowat is
‘experienced, wise, sensible and pragmatic’.
This firm's practice has a national range, but it is
especially identified as a player in the North West and West
Midlands. It is one of only two firms to have been appointed to all
ten lots of the North West NHS Commercial Agency, which is
testament to both great breadth of expertise and deep capacity. The
team was recently sought out by NHS West Midlands to advise on the
Mid Staffordshire inquiry.
