Financial and insurance

IFAs

Investors are now frequently targeting their professional advisors in an attempt to recover losses resulting from the property crash and the wider recession.

We have extensive expertise in dealing with claims against independent financial advisors relating to a wide variety of investments and pensions. We also have experience of claims arising from more unusual arrangements, such as film finance and hedge funds.

Accountants

An unexpected tax bill, or the discovery that an annual return or accounts have not been completed properly, often results in an accountant being blamed for the resultant losses. We have dealt with a large number of such claims.

We therefore have extensive experience of raising successful defences relating to mitigation of loss and in dealing with HMRC inquiries. We also have experience of dealing with complaints to the ICAEW.

Insurance brokers

Individuals and companies rely on their broker to provide them with a suitable level and type of cover for their needs. Brokers must also abide by the FSA's Handbook, including the Insurance Conduct of Business Sourcebook (ICOBS).

It is only when a claim arises that the policy wording is tested and the broker can come under scrutiny concerning his original advice. We have dealt with claims against brokers, and used our knowledge of the insurance market, regulation issues and the interpretation of policy wordings, to raise successful defences.
