in-house legal and estates teams, Hill Dickinson’s dedicated energy

construction projects across the UK.
We understand the significance of meeting project deadlines and the

recognise what is required to work effectively with joint venture
partners on behalf of a utility client.
We act for numerous statutory undertakers and have an extensive
track record across the full spectrum of property-related services
required by utility companies, including;
Leases & land acquisitions: dealing with
leases of every type and size in the public, retail, development,
office and industrial sectors. In the utilities sector, we have
dealt with the acquisition of hundreds of electricity substations
by way of lease or land acquisition, supplemented where appropriate
with planning, construction and property litigation advice.
Easements and wayleaves: we are retained by
statutory undertakers to deal with the grant, the surrender and the
variation of easements for overground and underground electricity
cables. We also have wide experience of gas easements and water
easements.
Telecommunications: we are highly experienced in
electronic communications/telecommunications matters, acting for
large land owners (including utility companies) on such lettings
for over 15 years.
Planning: as dedicated planning law experts we are
experienced in all types of planning issues. We provide advice
throughout the planning process including appearing before Planning
Inquiries and judicial review of planning decisions. We advise a
number of bodies regarding their statutory powers and permitted
development rights and are also experienced in advising on the
whole range of compulsory purchase matters from objection through
Inquiry to compensation matters at the Land Tribunal.
Litigation: as one of the largest specialised
property litigation teams in the north, we have a proven track
record in advising on enforceability; protection or removal; lease
renewals; the negotiation of release fees; and provided advice on
the development of sites.
Construction: a dedicated construction law team,
we are recognised for dealing with all aspects of construction and
engineering law, with extensive experience of both non-contentious
and contentious work, encompassing of all forms of dispute
resolution including mediation, adjudication, arbitration and
litigation. We have worked with utility companies with particular
experience of advising on water and sewage treatment
projects.
Development: acting for a number of developers, we
have considerable expertise in a wide range of developments,
including working with local authorities as part of joint venture
arrangements and with them directly on major projects involving
such elements as development agreements, procurement issues and
both public and private sector funding.
