Local government faces numerous challenges both strategically and on a daily basis: deriving best value for money, increasing regulatory compliance and uncompromising demand from the public for high quality services.
As legal advisers to more than 30 local and public authorities, Hill Dickinson has substantial insight into the pressures confronting these authorities. This is a vital component in delivering legal advice that adds value and helps our clients meet their commercial, social and financial objectives.
We have developed efficient and effective working practices to best supplement and support our clients’ existing in-house legal capabilities through a commitment to being accessible, available, transparent and innovative.
Our dedicated local government team is experienced in the full range of legal matters affecting local and public authorities including:
- Commercial and general conveyancing
- Compulsory purchase, planning and environmental law
- Employment
- Governance
- Procurement
- Construction
- Civil litigation and regulatory prosecutions
- PFI, PPP, company, trust and legal partnerships
- Intellectual property
- IT and commercial contracts
We also have significant links with other major public and private sector bodies. This ensures we are at the forefront of new developments in the public sector arena, and apply private sector learning for an innovative approach.
Proven track record
- Long-standing and continuing involvement in urban renewal and regeneration initiatives. One example is our current ongoing involvement in Housing Market Renewal Initiative schemes for a number of local authority clients.
- Advising and obtaining compulsory purchase order for Pathfinder regeneration.
- Providing full legal support in relation to the proposed construction of a cruise liner terminal to be built at Pier Head, Liverpool together with the re-development of the surrounding public areas. We also advised on the procurement process for the management of the Cruise Terminal including being on the selection panel that interviewed the shortlisted companies who had tendered for the role.
- Providing trading standards advice and pursuing prosecutions.
- Advising a local authority client in respect of the defence of multiple equal pay claims issued at the employment tribunal.
