Hill Dickinson’s Bids Manager, David Ferris has set sail on a once in a lifetime adventure, taking part in the final two legs of the Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race.

David, who won a competition to join the race, was originally down to join the Derry-Londonderry team boat in Halifax, Nova Scotia on 29th June for Race 13 but was forced to postpone his trip after incurring a back injury prior to departure. After full medical checks, David has now been cleared to sail and Hill Dickinson and Clipper have arranged for him to join the final legs of the race.
Jonathan Bailey, Race Director, Clipper Ventures says; “We are very pleased to welcome David on board for the last two races of Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race from Derry-Londonderry to Den Helder then onto Southampton for the finish. He will be a great ambassador for both Hill Dickinson and his home team, Derry-Londonderry, who he will be racing with. As a Northern Irishman, the race start from Derry-Londonderry will be full of emotion for David and I am sure he will have lots of tales of the highs and lows of ocean racing to share with his colleagues on his return.”

Hill Dickinson, whose team of expert lawyers in London are acknowledged as market leaders in the super yacht sector, sponsored Race 13. The firm is the official supplier of legal services for Clipper 11-12 race.
During his recovery period, David was able to present the Hill Dickinson Cup to Race 13 winners, the Gold Coast Australia team, at a special event in Derry-Londonderry
Now reunited with his crew aboard the Derry-Londonderry yacht, David is participating in races 14 - 15 and set off from Londonderry on Saturday, 7th July. Race 14 sees the Clipper Race fleet head north and round the top of the British Isles before entering the North Sea and setting a south east course towards Den Helder on the northern coastline of the Netherlands. Race 15, the final stage, finds the fleet plotting a course from The Netherlands to Southampton, UK. They will cross the finish line on 21st July in Southampton.
During his time on board the Clipper racing yacht, David will be raising as much money as possible for his chosen charity Marie Curie Cancer Care in memory of his mother who was looked after by their nurses. Sponsorship funds raised will help the Marie Curie nurses look after more people in their own homes or at one of the charity's hospices.
David commented: “I am delighted that I’ve been able to secure a
place in the finale of the Clipper Race, having been unable to
participate in the Trans-Atlantic stage. Taking part in the race
will allow me to raise plenty of money for Marie Curie Cancer Care,
a charity that has been a great support to my own family in the
past. ”

The yacht Derry-Londonderry is skippered by accomplished yachtsman Mark Light and the crew of 18 is carrying the 2013 Derry-Londonderry City of Culture message around the world.
