Hill Dickinson's name in lights once again at the Cannes film festival

National law firm Hill Dickinson has secured its position for the second consecutive year as sole legal advisor and sponsor of the UK Film Centre at the Cannes Film Festival, which takes place this week.

Following its highly successful series of legal surgeries at Cannes last year, which resulted in ‘”significant new client gains”, partner Philip Woods, who heads up the firm’s growing media team, accompanied by colleague, Ed Banks, will once again be on hand to provide free advice on all areas of media law to some of the UK’s most pioneering film production companies, directors and writers.

Says Philip: “We were overwhelmed by the response to our surgeries last year and are obviously thrilled to be the only law firm advising the burgeoning UK film industry at Cannes once again. The take-up for legal media advice – covering intellectual property, film production, advertising, sponsorship deals, contracts, copyright and IT – was so strong that we had to extend the event, making contact with in excess of 50 organisations and individuals seeking vital legal expertise in this sector”.

“Finance has been a key obstacle for this particular sector but we were able to help introduce and secure funding for many of the new and established film makers we saw, by looking at alternative funding partners to the some of the more predictable channels often used.”

Ed Banks added,”Given the harsh economic climate that our clients find themselves operating against, we will be on hand to offer pragmatic and commercial advice.”
