With 25 years' experience, Rhys specialises in insurance and reinsurance coverage, in a wide range of marine and non-marine insurance and reinsurance disputes and policy wordings and drafting. This includes hull, IV, P&I, war, yacht, energy, mortgagee interest, loss of hire, charterers liability, maritime casualties including explosions, fires, and sinkings, as well as charterparty and bill of lading disputes, and in fraud investigation. He undertakes work for underwriters, including Clubs, and assureds.

He has spoken and published widely on insurance and dispute resolution, including joint MIA work of the Law Commissions, fraud, exclusions in hull policies, anti suit injunctions, and corporate manslaughter, including coverage and limitation, in the UK, Europe, Scandinavia, Cyprus, USA and South America. He is a co-founder of the Maritime Solicitors’ Mediation Service. Rhys is a CEDR Accredited Mediator. Rhys is a CEDR Accredited Mediator.

Rhys was shortlisted as a finalist in the Lloyds List Global Awards 2009 as Shipping Lawyer of the Year and shortlisted as a finalist in the biennial CEDR Awards for Excellence in ADR, 2006 (Innovation) and 2008 (Sector). He acted as Judge and Mediator in the Second, Third and Fourth International Mediation Competitions held by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

In November 2010, Rhys hosted a seminar on Comparison of Shelltime 4 (1984), Shelltime 4 (2003) and ShellLNGTime 1 (2005), to mark the launch of the new work. The event included presentations from those who contributed most to the project, including the main author.
