Update on Passenger Liability Regulation (PLR) (392/2009)

Details

Now that the reservations of the nine EU countries, including the UK, have expired the PLR provisions applying the Athens Protocol 2002 are in force for all EU countries from 31 December 2016 for domestic carriage by sea.

This means that the same strict liability provisions for ‘shipping incident’ increased limits of 400,000 SDRs, blue card requirements, direct action against insurers etc. will now apply to domestic sea voyages of Class A vessels. For further information regarding Class A vessels please see our PLR and passenger rights article.

Now is the time to review your cruise line and tour operator booking terms and conditions to ensure that your business is adequately compliant.
