Hill Dickinson celebrates region’s top businesses at M.E.N Business of the Year Awards 2017

International commercial law firm Hill Dickinson joined the region’s top businesses last night for the Manchester Evening News’ 2017 Business of the Year Awards. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the popular awards ceremony which recognises and rewards businesses of all shapes and sizes from a broad range of sectors across the Greater Manchester region.

More than 400 guests attended the event at The Principal Hotel, which was hosted by journalist and presenter Nicholas Owen.

Hill Dickinson sponsored the event for a fourth consecutive year alongside PwC, Robert Walters, Manchester Airport, Barclays and Brewin Dolphin. As part of the judging process, sponsors visited more than 100 sites to see first-hand the fantastic work carried out by the region’s top performing businesses.

Geraldine Ryan, head of Hill Dickinson’s Manchester office and commercial litigation team, presented the award for turnover between £25m - £50m to Carrs Foods International, a bakery business with an impressive portfolio that includes St Pierre, Baker Street and Paul Hollywood Ready to Bake Breads.

The business has been developing and supplying European bakery products for the past 30 years via the multiple, convenience and wholesale channels and globally sells more than 200 million items every year. It started exporting to Australia a decade ago and entered the US market in 2014.

Congratulating Carrs Foods, Geraldine said: 'This was a very tough category with outstanding businesses and the judges had a hard time picking a winner. However, we decided that this award tops off a fantastic year for Carrs Foods which saw it ranked 7th in The Sunday Times International Track 200 for its staggering growth, going from a turnover of £16M in 2010 to a forecasted turnover of £50M this year.

'The judges were impressed by Carrs Foods’ expansion into international markets. Starting in Australia, its export range now includes 51 products, 20 of which are in the US range and listed in over 5000 stores worldwide.

'Founded in 1986, Carrs Foods is now an international market leader that has built an enviable portfolio of household name brands. We wish the team the best of luck for the future as they continue with their plans for growth both in the UK and overseas.'
