Details

Prior to joining the firm in 2009 Phil was the head of crime at another large north west base firm. He has defended large corporates and individuals in the most serious of health and safety prosecution and high end criminal matters including business crime. He has been pivotal in developing the team’s ability to defend clients (both corporate and individual) from inception/initial instructions through investigation and to ultimate disposal. He heads a team that has a proven track record demonstrating a breadth of knowledge across defence and reputation protection matters.

Phil will attend PACE interviews for all types of clients and has provided advice at this stage for many leading individuals (including top sports figures) and blue chip corporate bodies. He deals with much advocacy on behalf of clients particularly in criminal or health and safety prosecutions.

Phil qualified in 1988 having completed the CPE conversion course.The CPE was dealt with at Leeds University and the LSF finals course at Manchester Polytechnic.

    • Siemens Windpower A/S - health and safety prosecution arising from a fatality during the loading of a wind turbine onto a vessel at Harwich Docks
    • Has acted for General Motors (UK) in two separate serious matters. The first was a fatality arising from an incident on the production line
    • The second GM matter was a prosecution arising from the discovery and treatment of asbestos found on their premises
    • Defended a managing director to acquittal in a contested gross negligence manslaughter trial - R -v- Thelwall
    • Successfully defended Steven Gerrard in his trial for assault at Liverpool Crown Court
    • Represented a fireman to a not guilty verdict when charged with historical abuse cases of bullying and misconduct in public office
