Details

Tony is head of the Marine Business Group having returned to the UK in the summer of 2020 from his former role as head of the firm’s Singapore office.

Tony is a Master Mariner partner who has spent over 25 years dealing with shipping casualties of all types. He also has extensive salvage and wreck removal experience. Before joining Hill Taylor Dickinson in 1993, Tony was a deck officer with Ocean Fleets between 1978 and 1988. During this time, he sailed on tankers, bulk carriers and general cargo vessels. He subsequently worked in the North Sea on offshore vessels before beginning a law degree at Queen Mary and Westfield College, London, in 1989, while gaining experience in the Solent navigating ferries during this time. Tony completed his law society finals at Store Street.

Since the start of his career Tony has been particularly interested in casualty investigation work and has focused primarily on wet shipping and accidents at sea, while also touching on dry shipping work surrounding contractual and commercial matters. Being able to apply practical knowledge as a Master Mariner to a range of different cases has proved invaluable to Tony’s extensive law career.

Tony is an accredited mediator and arbitrator and is also a mental health first aider, one of a team of individuals at Hill Dickinson who are trained to have non-judgmental conversations, recognise the signs and symptoms of common workplace mental health issues and offer guidance towards the right support.
