About me

As a partner in our Marine team, I specialise in shipping and superyacht dispute resolution, working with clients as part of their extended team.

My clients span owners, operators, charterers, brokers, protection and indemnity insurers and market underwriters, and the matters I advise them on are equally varied. They typically include issues arising from charterparties, sale and purchase, construction, casualties, bills of lading, offshore contracts and marine insurance.

I’m often called on to assist clients with live matters that require real-time assistance to solve problems and limit risks, so my day can be very fast paced. As someone who is trained in law but also practical and receptive, I’m aware that a purely legal approach isn’t always the fastest way to a solution – there may be other elements at play - and it’s my job to respond to the issue quickly and efficiently by providing tangible, workable benefits for the client.

It certainly helps that I’ve competed secondments with a variety of P&I clubs, so I understand what claims handlers are dealing with and therefore what they need from their legal advisers.

My life away from work often continues the maritime theme – I’ve twice taken part in London Youth Rowing’s annual Oarsome Challenge and will be cycling in support of the RNLI in summer 2025.

My experience

  • The Stena Primorsk [2022] EWHC 2147 (Comm) – High Court case in which I successfully acted for Owners in relation to a charterparty dispute involving vessel safety issues.
  • London arbitration involving an alleged off-specification fuel oil cargo, with multimillion dollar claim for vessel damage and loss of use.
  • Assisting owners with a large containership fire involving legal action in multiple jurisdictions, including cargo claims, general average, salvage and charterparty disputes.
  • Assisting buyers with recovery under a superyacht construction contract.
