About me
I’m a senior specialist in mental capacity, mental health and public law.
I’m known for my ability to support clients in serious and often urgent care and treatment matters. I’ve led on various complex, high-profile cases that have had significant legal implications and attracted national media attention.
My clients include acute, community and mental health NHS Trusts, as well as Integrated Care Boards and independent healthcare providers.
Taking a collaborative approach, I work closely with clients to reach the right outcome. I’m empathetic and sensitive, while acting in a logical and solution-focused manner, ensuring clients receive robust support every step of the way.
I act as a steady pair of hands who clients can rely on when the pressure mounts, delivering clear guidance and effective action when it matters most.
Supporting my local community is important to me. I’ve volunteered with the Manchester-based charity Mustard Tree and I help out with events at my son’s school.
My experience
- Represented Trusts in withdrawal of life sustaining treatment applications.
- Represented a large acute and mental health trust in a complex application to determine whether it was in a patient’s best interests to undergo a hysterectomy procedure.
- Represented an acute hospital trust in an application to the High Court to seek authority to commence NG tube feeding for a 13-year-old child.
- Acted in a high risk and complex case regarding accommodation, care and treatment of a young woman with a diagnosis of child disintegrative disorder.
- Acted in a case involving patient at serious risk of death due to self-neglect and drug taking in the community, with associated complex issues relating to executive functioning and capacity.
- Regularly represent NHS Trusts in proceedings involving the deprivation of liberty of children and young people.
- Provide high level advice to NHS organisations on their commissioning duties, safeguarding responsibilities and overarching system wide policies and procedures.
