About me

I’m a partner in our Commodities team and specialise in shipping and international trade, marine insurance, international arbitration and dispute resolution.

My clients are traders, charterers, insurers and P&I clubs.

As their legal adviser, it’s my role to help reduce the pressure clients face in disputes that are live or commercially significant by providing a sounding board for in-house counsel and a clear plan towards resolution.

With more than 20 years of experience across both shipping and international trade, I have  a true commercial understanding of how one dispute can impact on matters affecting the sale and purchase of goods, their insurance, and their transportation. Accordingly, I aim to achieve solutions that are both commercial and practical while taking the time to gain insight into my clients’ commercial business so that I can frame our approach to litigation and arbitration to achieve their objectives.

Clients appreciate that I’m a team player who listens to their objectives and provides prompt, practical advice. I’m also a mental health first aider.

My experience

  • Member of International Bar Association (IBA).
  • Regularly advise traders, insurers, P&I clubs, charterers and shipowners in their live disputes affecting the carriage of goods and contractual relationships between charterers and shipowners (including quick, practical advice on charterparties, bills of lading and contracts of affreightment).
  • This has included everything from vessel groundings or casualties, US-China trade war, payment delays or other disputes in respect of cargo (also impacting on a vessel’s movements), contamination of oil cargoes and soft commodities, quality disputes, force majeure events (fires, floods, droughts, strikes).
  • Arbitration work includes ad hoc, LMAA and trade associations such as Gafta and FOSFA.
