About me
I’m a partner in our Shipping team, with both commercial and contentious expertise, so the areas I advise on span everything from ship arrests, contractual disputes and cargo claims to contractual matters, personal injury and ship-sale and purchase.
My client portfolio is correspondingly diverse, consisting of a wide cross-section of clients in the shipping sector, including P&I clubs, cargo interests and owners, freight forwarders, shipping lines and major ports and terminals.
Whatever the matter at hand, I seek a thorough understanding of the client’s needs and work with them in partnership to identify pragmatic solutions that best meet their requirements and improve their business. And while it’s essential that I understand the big picture insofar as my clients’ business aims are concerned, they also know my attention to detail and work ethic can be relied upon to achieve the best solution on their behalf.
Clients are often surprised to learn that prior to training in law I did a degree in Agriculture and still live on the family dairy farm. Accordingly, I have a keen interest in the outdoors, British agriculture and the environment.
My experience
- Recovery of significant sums via ship arrest and sale of a fleet of vessels across UK and Spain.
- Advising on numerous MAIB investigations and associated claims arising from ship-related fatalities/accidents.
- Assisting port and terminal operators with various issues including liabilities arising from regulatory considerations, rates, accidents, financial recoveries, commercial issues and subsidy clawback claims.
- Yacht recoveries on behalf of financial institutions.
- Acting for liner agents in respect of issues arising from administration of major retailers (including Woolworths, Habitat, Debenhams and Unipart Automotive) and liabilities arising from: advising port, terminal and marina operators on their standard terms and conditions and assisting P&I clubs in relation to cargo and/or port-related issues.
