About me

I’m a Partner, specialising in shipping, international trade, marine insurance, international arbitration and dispute resolution so my clients are shipowners, charterers, traders, brokers and insurers.

I also act for financiers of these interests such as commercial parties, including distributors, particularly of wine-related products.

I also work as an international arbitrator in international commercial arbitration, including the international sale of goods and vessel construction, together with shipping (LCIA and LMAA).

What sets me apart as a lawyer is the fact that I have more than 35 years of experience working for different businesses, predominantly in the marine and trade sector, and principally as a disputes lawyer, but also with significant involvement in transactional work.

My approach is one of collaboration, analysis and pragmatism, building strong relationships and finding workable solutions to clients’ problems.

My experience

  • Diverse range of shipping, international trade, insurance and commercial agreements, both as instructed lawyer and as an arbitrator. On the approved list for international trade and marine for the London Court of International Arbitration.
  • I have worked in some of the largest wreck removal projects over the last 15 years, including the “COSTA CONCORDIA”.
  • Leading cases involving aspects of shipping and Admiralty law, including the right of vessel arrest (The “ALKYON”) and the availability of relief from forfeiture in favour of a bareboat charter (SY Rs Ro -v- Fratelli Onorato Armatori).
  • Leading case on Rightship vetting – “THE SILVER CONSTELLATION”.
  • Major case involving the high-profile detention of a large oil tanker off West Africa for over eight months.
  • Clients range from major international energy companies and traders, shipping lines through to small shipping and trading companies.
