About me

I’m a partner and head of the firm’s London Construction and Engineering team.

My clients are drawn from all sectors of the industry and include developers, owners, occupiers, funds, main and specialist sub-contractors, consultants and industry bodies. I advise them on the procurement and delivery of a wide range of projects while helping resolve any disputes they encounter along the way.

Building strong relationships is at the heart of the way I work, whether that’s with clients or with colleagues. After almost 40 years of working across all sectors of the construction industry, those relationships are easily the most rewarding part of my work.

Clients benefit from my extensive knowledge and expertise and the fact that I’m able to add value to client relationships through third-party connections and other initiatives where I can see this might benefit them.

Within work, I’m passionate about mentoring my team, helping more junior colleagues to grow and develop not just as lawyers but as individuals too.

Outside work, I volunteer for both the NHS and Help the Aged, supporting others, giving back and hopefully creating a legacy.

My experience

  • Over 35 years’ specialist industry experience, with longstanding client and wider industry relations and friendships.
  • I advise on appropriate procurement strategies for construction (new build ground up development and refurbishment fit out works) and engineering projects. More generally, I advise on and negotiate proposed contract terms, bonds, warranties and guarantees, joint venture agreements, novation agreements at both tender and contract award stages, and undertake contract due diligence and advisory work for funds.
  • I help clients to mitigate and resolve disputes at adjudication, litigation or ADR process, arising due to defective and/or late design, defective works, failure to carry out and complete work, failure to properly supervise and/or project manage works, negligent certification and wrongful suspension or termination of work.
  • My industry standing is reflected in my work for various industry bodies, being a former non-executive chairman and council member of BSRIA, board member of the Confederation of Construction Specialists and South East Centre for the Built Environment, and an advisor to the Finishes and Interiors Sector and Building Engineering Services Association, while also being a member of the national Construction Industry Conflict Avoidance Group. I am also a non-executive director of two national contractor Groups.
