About me

I’m a Partner in the Manchester Health Litigation team, specialising in the defence of clinical negligence and non-clinical claims in the health sector, including employers’ and public liability matters. I act for NHS trusts via NHS Resolution, where I’m nominated as key personnel for both clinical and non-clinical claims.

With over 25 years' experience, I’ve handled many of the most complex and high-value healthcare claims, including cerebral palsy and catastrophic injury claims. I regularly support clients through alternative dispute resolution processes such as mediation, have successfully defended high-profile cases at the High Court and have experience in the Court of Appeal.

Clients value my clear, practical advice and my commitment to working in partnership throughout litigation. Helping healthcare staff through difficult claims and securing the right outcomes is what I find most rewarding.

I support The Christie Charity, which provides enhanced health services. In terms of travel, the landscape, wildlife, food and wine made South Africa a joy to visit.

My experience

  • Defending the most complex and high value clinical negligence claims for NHS Resolution, including obstetric claims.
  • Concluding numerous multi-million pound claims for defendant NHS bodies, largely by way of settlements involving periodical payments.
  • Alternative dispute resolution undertaken in the majority of high value cases which have settled, including resolution by way of mediation.
  • Acted for the defendant in the Court of Appeal decision clarifying causation in the clinical negligence claims of Gouldsmith -v-Mid Staffs NHS Trust.
  • Successfully defended the cerebral palsy claim of Cox -v-Secretary of State for Health in the High Court.
