About me
As a shipping law specialist, I help clients make sense of the legal side of the maritime industry, offering the strategic support they need to protect their interests and meet their aims.
I advise on shipping disputes, including those that involve charterparty issues, cargo claims and casualties. I also support on transactions, especially sales and purchases of vessels and ship finance. My clients include shipowners, charterers, operators, traders, cargo owners and underwriters.
My goal is to be my clients’ go-to lawyer for critical shipping matters. I get to know each client’s unique needs and objectives so I can equip them with advice and solutions that are clear, practical and effective, while aligning with what they want to achieve as a business.
I’m the definition of a globetrotter. Born in Seoul, I’ve lived in Vienna, London and Hong Kong, while I speak English, German and Korean. It’s really opened my eyes to different cultures and shown me just how global the shipping world really is.
My experience
- Represents leading South Korean, Japanese and Asian shipowners, including HMM and Sinokor in high-value, complex maritime disputes.
- Advise on vessel sale and purchase transactions, providing comprehensive legal support from due diligence and contract drafting to closing.
- Assist with diverse maritime asset financing structures, including syndicated loans and vessel leasing, facilitating successful financing arrangements for newbuild and second-hand vessels.
- Has experience in Lloyds Open Form arbitration as well as arbitrations subject to LMAA, SCMA, LCIA, SIAC and ICC terms and has been involved in litigation before the English High Court.
- Member of the International Association of Korean Lawyers (IAKL), Korean Chamber of Commerce (KOCHAM), World Federation of Overseas Korean Economic and Trade Association (OKTA), the Law Society and the New York State Bar Association.
- Dual-qualified in England and Wales and the US (New York state).
