About me
I lead our Competition and Regulatory team in Asia.
My role is to offer clients the support they need to expand or restructure their businesses.
I’m committed to creating long term relationships with my clients, supporting them from the initial establishment of a business right through to its successful sale.
My practice covers everything from initial strategic advice and negotiating contracts to securing the necessary regulatory approvals, including antitrust approvals across multiple jurisdictions.
The kinds of clients I work with include global firms, listed companies, universities and governments.
I’m highly experienced in handling legal issues that have a global element to them, with over two decades working across Australia, London, Shanghai and Hong Kong,.
As part of this, I have particular expertise in advising on business restructuring in China and Hong Kong, and I also act as a legal adviser to the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.
Inquisitive by nature, I leave no stone unturned, offering the nuanced legal and commercial insight clients need to resolve whatever issue they face. I’m here whenever clients need me, being on hand to address challenges before they arise to ensure they achieve optimal outcomes.
My experience
- Advised on a number of sourcing and procurement matters across the Asia Pacific region, including advising an Australian-listed retailer on their China and Hong Kong sourcing activities, and advising an Australian food company on regulatory matters, commercial disputes and a joint venture in China.
- Advised on numerous China and Hong Kong business establishment and restructuring matters, including the creation and sale of two joint ventures for an Australian-listed insurance firm and the liquidation of two sourcing businesses in China, as well as advising a UK department store on the establishment and subsequent restructuring of operations in Beijing and Shanghai.
- Advised on various restructuring matters in Hong Kong including assisting a European bank on relocating a business unit from Hong Kong to Singapore and advising a UK design firm in closing its Hong Kong office.
- Advised a US-listed international online travel agency on one of the first set of commitments accepted by the Hong Kong Competition Commission, and then assisted them with their ongoing compliance, and advised on the subsequent expiry of those commitments.
- Acted as a registered Supervisor of a number of wholly owned foreign enterprises in China.
Awards and accolades
- Won in the ‘Innovation in Enabling Business Growth’ category at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Asia-Pacific Awards for work helping to establish the Global Shipping Business Network, a consortium of shipping industry participants to leverage blockchain technology.
