About me

I’m an international commercial dispute resolution specialist and I’m known my work on wet and dry shipping disputes, trade disputes, marine casualties and offshore/energy matters.

I advise on wet and dry shipping matters, contractual disputes, emergency response, offshore/energy, insurance, international trade, commodities, litigation and arbitration. My clients include shipowners, operators, charterers, contractors, salvors, insurers and traders.

I’m experienced at representing clients in English Commercial and Admiralty Court proceedings, as well as international arbitration (LMAA, LOF, LCIA, SIAC, SCMA, UNCITRAL and ad hoc). I’m specifically known for my work in complex arbitrations.

My approach is to provide practical, commercially focused, legally sound advice, offering the support clients need to solve the problems they face in real time. I help clients find innovative solutions to address difficult issues.

I advise on commercial issues and wordings within my area of specialism. I often write articles and present on my areas of expertise.

My experience

  • Experience of handling high profile complex casualties and ensuing litigation involving fires, groundings, sinkings, collisions, allisions, stack collapses, GA events, explosions, breakdowns, limitation, jurisdiction disputes, wreck removal and salvage in relation to a wide variety of vessels.
  • Experience of Charterparty, Vessel Sharing Agreements, Bills of Lading, COA, Sale Contract and trading disputes both in the context of arbitration and litigation.
  • In the offshore industry, significant experience of handling disputes for operators, contractors, and their insurers, involving specialist vessels such as OSVs, PSVs, AHTs, and jackups with issues such as instability incidents, punch-throughs, damage to sub-sea infrastructure, damage to infrastructure, collisions in field, as well as contractual issues on various forms.
  • Regularly instructed on highly technical, high value wreck removal and salvage (LOF and commercial terms) matters, with instructions spanning the blue water and offshore space. Wreck removal instructions have included, among others, separate incidents involving the largest known single WRECKSTAGE contract as well as the largest known WRECKFIXED contract.
  • Spent time with an offshore insurance syndicate as well as spending six months working at an International Group P&I Club.
  • Qualified in England and Wales, and has spent time practicing in London, Dubai and Singapore.
