About me

I’m an employment lawyer who works closely with clients to support both their strategic aims and day-to-day needs. I advise private, public and third-sector organisations, as well as senior individuals, taking a commercial, pragmatic solutions-driven approach. I have a broad range of experience, advising clients in a wide-range of sectors.

Collaboration is central to how I work. I invest time in understanding each client’s priorities so I can support decision making, rather than simply offering advice from the sidelines. Having previously worked in-house at a FTSE 250 company, I’m comfortable being part of the team and contributing to wider discussions, not just legal ones.

My role is very rewarding. I get a lot of satisfaction from a job well done and from helping clients achieve their goals. Clients often describe me as accessible, down to earth and practical. I pride myself on delivering a high level of service, communicating clearly and avoiding legal jargon.

Alongside my practice, I’ve held several governance and trustee roles, including as an Independent Director and Board Committee Chair of a housing company, a school Governor and a Trustee of the charity Ethiopiaid.

My experience

  • Advised professional and elite sports clubs, including Premier League and EFL football clubs, professional rugby and cricket clubs and an elite gymnastics club on employment matters for players and senior leadership, regulatory and governance issues, investigations and equality issues, as well as drafting and negotiating senior executive and coaching agreements.
  • Advised large employers on TUPE, collective redundancies and defending mass litigation, including a TUPE case involving 15,000 employees. Extensive experience of trade union matters, including recognition, collective agreements, industrial action and Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) claims. Successfully defended claims for TU recognition at the CAC by a national retailer and a manufacturing client.
  • Significant experience advising recruitment and training clients and organisations using their services, on employment status issues, IR35 and recruitment contracts. Drafted standard terms of business for various agencies and standard terms for their end users. Defended the first mass claim from agency workers under the Agency Workers Regulations involving over 100 drivers at a motor manufacturing plant.
  • Advised firms and individuals in professional services in particular lawyers and accountants on disciplinary matters and breaches of professional standards.
  • Significant experience defending claims, including at the EAT and CAC. Successfully defended very large and complex claims including for TUPE consultation, collective consultation, all types of discrimination and atypical worker issues.
