Master Mariner Associate

London (City)

About me

I’m a London-based Master Mariner Associate in Hill Dickinson’s Marine and Trade team. With over 15 years at sea and 21 years in the maritime industry, I advise on casualties, collisions, pollution incidents, salvage, cargo claims and charterparty disputes.

My dual qualification as a Master Mariner and a solicitor in England & Wales gives me the technical insight and legal precision required to support P&I Clubs, H&M underwriters, owners and charterers. I’ve resolved complex, time-sensitive issues and I simplify technical matters and focus on practical, commercially viable outcomes.

Clients value my calm approach, positive mindset and ability to translate legal and operational complexity into actionable advice. I hold an LLM with Distinction in International Maritime Law and am a Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

I’ve been part of the shipping world for more than half my life. This is my passion. I’m also inspired by the writings of Ayn Rand and Deepak Chopra.

My experience

  • Assisting shipowners on a live matter dealing with ‘dangerous cargo’ which involved dealing with a deteriorating grain cargo being transported across multiple jurisdictions and obtaining an order from the High Court in England which granted rights to the carrier to dispose the cargo.
  • Assisting charterers on a live matter involving extensive cross-contamination of clean petroleum products, active involvement in mitigating losses and identifying root cause of the incident.
  • Pursuing litigation in Admiralty Court for a collision incident, helping the clients recover their loss of hire claim against the opponents.
  • Investigating fire incident that involved a huge explosion in the vessel’s accommodation, resulting in multiple casualties off the coast of Turkey.
  • Providing technical assistance on maritime casualties in Belgium, Gibraltar, Malta, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, India and Australia. This includes taking witness statements, reviewing experts’ reports, analysing VDR data, engaging with local authorities and surveyors, organising oil spill mitigation measures and engaging with local lawyers to understand the national applicable laws governing oil spill and wreck removal liability on behalf of P&I as well as H&M insurers.
  • Determining key aspects of exercise of due diligence to make vessels seaworthy in General Average claims.
