About me
I’m a commercial litigator who specialises in disputes relating to the gaming and betting industry.
I’m experienced in various forms of dispute resolution, including arbitration and mediation. The kinds of matters I advise on include contractual and shareholder disputes, along with those relating to both contentious procurement and professional negligence claims.
I act for large companies, high-net worth individuals or public sector organisations. I often represent global brands in disputes that impact the wider gaming and betting industry, and I find this truly rewarding, as I enjoy the challenge working on these cases brings.
I always seek to achieve the best possible result for clients. My approach is to put myself in their shoes, so I can understand the world they operate in, the opportunities open to them and the challenges they face, and can give them the guidance they need to realise their ambitions.
Giving back matters to me, and I act as the Chair of Trustees for an Almshouses Charity in South Yorkshire. A married dad of twin boys, away from work I like to spend time outdoors with my family, and I’m also a fan of watching live sport, particularly football and cricket.
My experience
- Defended gambling operators in responsible gambling (duty of care) court proceedings brought by former customers
- Advised on the incorporation of ‘click-wrap’ terms and consumer related contract issues in the betting and gaming sector and also on issues relating to cheating
- Advised gambling operators on disputes with affiliate marketing partners including the payment of commission and audits
- Acted for a majority shareholder who was excluded from the company he founded including bringing unfair prejudice proceedings against his fellow shareholders and giving strategic advice to allow for settlement of disputes in various jurisdictions with an overall value of c. £3 million
- Acted in a c.£1.5 million professional negligence claim for a well-known venue on the Yorkshire coast against the client’s insurance brokers to a settlement
- Successfully struck out a claim for over £2 million made against a US sportswear manufacturer in a brand endorsement dispute with the offshore management company of a Premier League footballer, maintaining this judgment in the Court of Appeal
