About me

I am a consultant in the firm’s Marine, Trade and Energy team with more than 40 years’ experience advising on shipping and superyacht disputes.

Over that time, I have built a global client base of predominantly owners and P&I clubs on the shipping side and owners and brokers on the superyacht side. I have also acted for other interests such as charterers, yacht managers, surveyors and classification societies.

I believe that most disputes should be capable of resolution on appropriate terms but, if not, I fight my client’s corner to the end. I have successfully litigated and arbitrated matters all over the world, sometimes to the extent of making new law in the process.

I aim to develop a strong working relationship with all my clients and make myself available 24/7 to assist them in navigating whatever problems they are confronted with. That way, I create a team ethos and a winning mentality (especially if proceedings are involved) and think that clients like working with me because I am approachable and I get results.

My experience

  • Acted for Lakatamia Shipping Co Ltd (Polys Haji-Ioannou) in its long-running litigation with Nobu Su and others.
  • Acted for Class NK in the seminal NICHOLAS H case in 1996 concerning classification society liability.
  • Instructed in Boris Berezovsky -v- Edmiston & Company Ltd in 2011 where I acted for the successful broker – a case concerning liability for brokerage commission.
