About me

As a partner in the firm’s Marine Team, I specialise in all types of marine matters, with a particular focus on acting for shipowners and charterers across a range of  non-contentious and contentious matters.

This includes providing advice on bespoke charterparty clauses and agreements, including provisions addressing new and developing issues such as FuelEU and other ‘green shipping’ initiatives.

The majority of my practice however, centres around helping my clients navigate the complexities of charterparty disputes, cargo claims, ship management disputes and ship building disputes. Such claims are complex and are frequently live and evolving matters requiring urgent clear, strategic and practical advice. For that, I’m viewed by clients as an integral part of their team and their ‘go to’ point of contact.

Away from work, I live on a farm with my husband, two small boys, five horses, a dog, a cat, a lot of sheep and occasionally some dairy cows. Children, animals and fresh air are the perfect counterpoint to a career in law!

My experience

  • I regularly speak on behalf of BIMCO on a variety of issues related to Charterparties and Bills of Lading.
  • Drafting Fuel EU Clauses for Charterparties and Shipmanagement Agreements.
  • Advising on the terms of the carriage of captured CO2.
  • Advising on the rapidly changing landscape of war risks in the Middle East and whether or not vessels have to proceed into affected areas.
  • Acting for a client in a charterparty chain regarding the vessel’s physical condition and fitness of service of the vessel to call at specific ports.
  • Acting for a shipowner following the alleged contamination of a liquid hydrocarbon cargo by an unidentified substance and water at the load port, including providing advice on the issuance and clausing of bills of lading.
