About me

I’m a shipping lawyer with particular expertise handling the practical and legal issues arising from the operation of ships that transport liquid cargoes such as oil, chemicals, gas or LNG.

My work is mostly with ship owners and charterers, along with their insurers.

I have a talent for explaining complex technical and legal problems in a way that is easy to understand, so clients can make decisions that suit their circumstances and reflect their goals.

Working with me is always a positive experience. I act as an extension of the team, being there to tackle any issues before they arise, so nothing prevents the client from achieving the desired result. I foster relationships that last, and I’ve worked with lots of my clients for many years.

A thought leader in my field, I also lecture on various BIMCO training courses, covering a variety of shipping law-related areas such as bills of lading and charterparties.

Away from work, I like to stay active, I cook and am a member of my local running and tennis clubs.

My experience

  • Acted for numerous LNG tanker owners and charterers primarily in relation to performance disputes (excess boil off and/or consumption claims).
  • Represented owner of a new build LNG vessel in a $6 million dispute regarding contamination of cargo and delayed discharge.
  • Acting for various shipowners in relation to shortage and/or contamination claims in arbitration.
  • Acted for various energy companies on the marine aspects of windfarm construction and operation.
  • Member of BIMCO’s SHIPMAN drafting committee.
