About me

I’m a costs law expert who makes it my mission to reduce the costs liability that defendants face following the resolution of a civil action. I work with public bodies such as the NHS and police forces, while also acting for various private healthcare providers.

My practice focuses mainly on the healthcare sector, however I have plenty of experience in other areas too. I specialise in handling high-value clinical negligence costs claims, while I also deal with technical issues in cost disputes and advise on appeals for matters of wider technical importance.

I’m known for my technical expertise and experience, as well as for my reliable nature and strong communication skills. The guidance I offer is detailed, methodical and realistic, allowing me to give clients everything they need to decide how best to move forward and achieve their aims.

The changing landscape of costs law has always intrigued me, and I enjoy adapting as it evolves. This allows me to get creative and come up with new challenges to reduce costs being claimed.

My experience

  • Has worked in all areas of cost law, for both defendant and claimant firms, and has experience of both recovery and adverse costs.
  • Acted on an appeal in the High Court concerning the extent to which a CFA could survive the administration of a firm of solicitors absent express assignment or novation of that retainer.
  • Acted on a judgment which provides confirmation that Part 36 cost consequences can be awarded severally, are subject to judicial discretion, are subject to a test of injustice and not an automatic entitlement.
  • Acted on an appeal from the County Court which limited costs on low value data breach claims as they can be suitable for the small claims track.
