One Couple, One Lawyer

Resolution Together

Helping separating couples jointly navigate the process of amicable divorce.

Separation and divorce can be emotionally demanding, especially when children and long term family relationships are involved. Many couples want to move forward with care, fairness and respect, without turning a personal decision into a dispute.

Our One Couple, One Lawyer service offers a cooperative way to separate or divorce. Working together with one lawyer, we support you to reach shared decisions that work for your family now and in the future.

Based on the pioneering Resolution Together model, our One Couple, One Lawyer service is designed for couples who want to stay focused on separating amicably, prioritising communication and arriving at solutions you both feel comfortable with.

How One Couple, One Lawyer helps

This collaborative approach allows you to receive legal advice together from a single, specially trained family lawyer. You and your former partner work side by side to agree arrangements for finances and children, with just one set of legal fees and avoiding court proceedings.

The focus remains entirely on the wellbeing of your family – including any children.

How the One Couple, One Lawyer process works

1. Individual meetings

You will each meet the lawyer individually at the outset. This gives you the opportunity to talk openly, understand how the service works and confirm that it feels right for you.

2. Joint meetings

If you both decide to proceed, you will meet together with your lawyer to discuss the matters you need to agree, such as finances or parenting arrangements.

3. Support where needed

Where appropriate, your lawyer can involve other professionals, such as financial advisers, accountants or pension experts, so that decisions are made with the right information.

4. Legal paperwork

Once you reach agreement, your lawyer prepares all the necessary legal documents to formally reflect what you have decided.

  • there are safeguarding concerns relating to either of you or any child

  • there is a significant power imbalance between you

  • there is a significant conflict or complexity that needs separate legal advice.

In these situations, our Family team can talk through other ways we may be able to support you.
