Our opportunities

Our training contracts offer you the opportunity to do four six-month seats in your chosen sector over the course of the two years. We believe that by aligning your career to a sector of law that you are truly passionate about from the outset, you will become the best future lawyer at Hill Dickinson that you can be, through tailoring your development and knowledge to either business services, health or marine.

We have training contracts on offer based in our Liverpool, Manchester, London, Leeds and Newcastle offices.

You will be supported throughout your training not only by your supervisor and peers, but also a dedicated trainee committee. Our trainee committee is made up of partners, legal directors and senior associates that represent each of our locations and business groups. Alongside regular reviews, where the committee will check in on your progress and development, they are also always on hand to provide advice and support.

Alongside the technical, legal training you will also have the opportunity to attend a programme designed especially for our trainees to enhance your business skills and personal effectiveness. Not only does this ensure you have the foundations you need to continue to grow in your career, but also provides a valuable opportunity to network with your peers.

As acknowledged by our A* in the peer support category from Legal Cheek, our trainees ranked their colleagues as being highly supportive, always on hand to share advice and guidance.

Being a part of Hill Dickinson is about more than the work you do in each of your seats, and you will have the opportunity to get actively involved in our corporate responsibility agenda, diversity and inclusion networking groups and social committees.

We offer an extensive range of benefits designed to help meet your personal and social needs, as well as your professional needs, to encourage a healthy work life balance – including giving you your birthday off!

We regularly review our benefits to ensure that they our both competitive and relevant to our people, and you can find further information on our recruitment page.

In addition, our trainees start on £28,000 in northern offices and £39,000 in London, which increases in the second year of your training.

Insight schemes and open days

Insight schemes

We offer insight schemes across our UK offices to give you the opportunity to see what life is really like at Hill Dickinson. Our insight schemes will also give you the opportunity to be considered for a training contract, and learn more about the sector that you are interested in.

During the scheme, you will hear first-hand experiences of our trainees, trainee committee and wider business, and how this contributes to our welcoming and approachable culture.

Open days

We will be hosting open days in our LiverpoolLondon and Manchester offices in winter 2023.

Our open day is a great opportunity to get to know the firm better and will be invaluable in helping you decide which training contract you would like to apply for. However, our open day is open to anyone at any stage of their education or career – whether you will be applying in the future or are just beginning to explore a career in law.

The open day will include opportunities to attend sessions with our trainees, understand what a career in law really involves, and, if you decide we’re the firm for you, how to get the most out of your applications.
