Commercial law firm Hill Dickinson has advised Hydrogen Future Industries plc on the acquisition of a suite of international patents that will significantly enhance the company’s IP around systems it is developing with HFI IP Holdings Limited, its product development subsidiary.

The patents, previously held by HW Power (the seller), relate to work undertaken by Timothy Blake (chief executive of HFI Energy Systems Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hydrogen Future Industries plc) between 2015 and 2018, prior to him joining the HFI group.

They cover works that will not only significantly enhance IP around the HFI group’s wind-based hydrogen production system but provide potential wider commercial applications for patents beyond the HFI group’s systems, providing an opportunity for early cash flow generation.

Leading on the provision of legal advice to the HFI group was Hill Dickinson associate Isabella Spencer-Higgins of the firm’s London Corporate-Commercial team, assisted by associate Matt Montgomery and paralegal Oliver Hart.

The patents include ducted wind turbine rotor configurations; a dynamic telescopic tower to optimise wind farm energy production and reduce maintenance cost; a variable hydraulic drive and electro-magnetic clutch to increase efficiency and lower the cost of energy production; and the conversion of stored energy to green hydrogen.
