Hills Salvage and Recycling Ltd (also known as Hills Motors), one of the UK’s leading vehicle dismantling and recycling specialists, has been acquired by national group Copart UK Ltd. Commercial law firm Hill Dickinson advised Hills on the sale.
Family-owned business Hills, of Skelmersdale, Lancashire, was founded over 40 years ago by Jeff and Dorothy Hill is now run by son Ian Hill and his team.
In addition to the sale of second-hand car parts, the company has more recently become a leader in the introduction and supply of green parts, which Copart intends to market as an independent brand, ‘The Green Parts Specialist’. Hills managing director Ian Hill will oversee the group’s growth plans in this space, with all Hills staff remaining with the business.
Leading on the provision of legal advice to Hills was Hill Dickinson chair Jonathan Brown, assisted by senior associates Lizzie Jones and Jon Pearson-Basudev, associate Ben Correia de Sousa and trainee solicitor Nick O’Shaughnessy.
Ian Hill and his team have built a very successful business that was attractive to a number of potential purchasers. In particular, the growth in recent years of the company’s green parts business chimes with greater awareness generally of ESG and the advantages of reusing and recycling. We were delighted to advise and thoroughly enjoyed working with Ian Hill and his team on the sale and wish all parties every success in taking the combined business forward.Jonathan Brown
