Law firm Hill Dickinson’s Health and Life Sciences team has advised Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) on the implementation and modular build of a community diagnostic centre (CDC) with Alliance Medical Limited (AML), a British supplier of leading diagnostic and molecular imaging services.

Collaborative working between the NCA, Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership and Oldham Council has resulted in the team receiving a share of the £350 million national investment fund to create one of the first 40 new CDCs across England. The Oldham CDC is due to open in December 2022.

For NCA, the new CDC in Oldham will provide patients with advanced diagnostic technology, in an accessible community location, where multiple tests can be delivered on the same day.

Advising NCA on the CDC contract were Health and Life Sciences partner Jamie Foster and senior associate Christiana Demetriou.

This fantastic new development signifies innovation, cutting edge technology and shorter wait times, and means that we will be able to make diagnostic tests more convenient and deliver multiple tests on the same day for our patients, away from our main hospital sites. Ultimately, our ambition is to diagnose disease at an earlier stage of progression, where chances of successful treatment are improved.

Director of Planning and Delivery, Northern Care Alliance

Acknowledging the support Hill Dickinson provided to NCA, he added:

“The legal and commercial support we have received from Hill Dickinson has been of the highest quality. Jamie, Christiana and colleagues understood our requirements very well and worked tirelessly on our behalf to deliver a broad range of legal requirements relating to land, property and diagnostic services. The timescale of business case approval to mobilisation has been hugely challenging and the Hill Dickinson team have played a very important part in helping us to achieve this major strategic ambition for our patients.”

Commenting on the collaboration for Hill Dickinson, Christiana Demetriou said:

“Our team has been supporting NCA on this project with AML since the middle of 2022. The signing of the CDC contract is an exciting next step for NCA, as the parties can now focus on finalising the build of the CDC and ultimately allowing patients to receiving diagnostic testing within their community. Earlier diagnosis of diseases will enable faster provision of the required treatment, thereby reducing the risk of unsuccessful treatment later down the line due to delayed diagnosis.”
