Commercial law firm Hill Dickinson has advised Phenna Group, a global provider of testing, inspection, certification and compliance (TICC) services, on its acquisition of environmental compliance business Environmental Compliance & Services Ltd (ECAS).

Headquartered in Nottingham, UK, Phenna Group has embarked on an ambitious growth strategy, investing in and partnering with selected niche, independent TICC companies that serve a variety of sectors. ECAS is Phenna’s eighth acquisition into the Group to date in 2024 and adds service and geographic extension to its UK market compliance and certification division.

Established in 2013, ECAS is headquartered in Birmingham and is an industry leader in environmental compliance. It provides compliance services for utility and commercial clients that help protect the environment by driving positive, sustainable, and long-lasting change in communities nationwide. This includes an award-winning programme that ensures food service establishments dispose of fats, oils, and grease responsibly and sustainably, in line with The Water Industry Act 1991.

Leading on the provision of legal advice to Phenna Group was partner Nick Dawson of Hill Dickinson’s Birmingham office, assisted by senior associate Tom Wisniewski.

We are delighted to have advised our client, Phenna Group, on the company’s successful acquisition of ECAS. Phenna Group has a very clear strategy to acquire businesses that align with its own service offering, all the while extending its client base, geographic reach and its combined capabilities in the compliance and certification space. This deal promises to be beneficial for all parties and we wish both sides every success as they move forward together as an expanded group.
