Law firm Hill Dickinson recently advised software solutions start up Riven Group on sale of the business to NEC Software Solutions UK (NECSWS), a provider of innovative software and services to Central and Local Government, Health, Housing and Public Safety both in the UK and worldwide.

Riven Group’s acquisition into the NECSWS fold will complement the latter’s technology portfolio, particularly in the public safety sector.

Riven was founded by Steven Richardson and Rishi Hindocha in 2023. The company has developed a suite of tools under the DocDefender brand that can automatically identify personal information for redaction and scan documents for hidden data.

DocDefender is already used by nearly 50% of UK police forces, with the potential to expand into the wider public safety and justice market, such as local government, healthcare and legal and financial services.

Hill Dickinson corporate partner Matt Noon led on the provision of legal advice to Riven Group, assisted by legal director Katy Oakes and apprentice solicitor Nick O’Shaughnessy.

Riven Group founders Rishi and Steven have created a software solution that has already delivered significant time and cost savings to UK police forces, making them a very attractive proposition for NEC Software Solutions. We were delighted to advise them on this sale, which gives the business a much bigger platform from which to extend their product into the wider market that NEC serves. We wish both parties great success in moving their combined service offering forward.

This represents a strategic alignment of the values held by both of our organisations and we are eager to harness the respective strengths of the technology and services to make a lasting impact. Matt and his team at Hill Dickinson provided invaluable legal advice throughout the process and were great to work with.”
