Iconic British make-up brand Barry M has been sold in a pre-pack rescue deal supported by our Restructuring and Insolvency team.
The family-run business, which has products stocked in around 1,300 shops across the UK – including Superdrug, Boots, Sainsbury's and Tesco – has seen its brand, IP, stock and order book acquired by AIM-quoted Warpaint London plc in a £1.4 million deal.
Our Restructuring and Insolvency team – led by Partner Lemi McAuley, Legal Director Elizabeth Wood and Associate Molly Rowell – acted as lead legal advisers to Begbies Traynor Group (BTG), which led the accelerated M&A process having been appointed as administrators by Barry M.
The deal follows the team’s support for the recent successful sales of Moores Furniture Group to Wren Kitchens, and craft ale Black Sheep Brewery to the owner of Purity Brewing Co.
Barry M has been an influential name in UK cosmetics for more than four decades, and it has been important to help secure a future for the brand on the high street. Working alongside BTG, we focused on achieving a positive outcome for the business in accelerated circumstances. This transaction reflects the continued strength and capability of our team in delivering complex accelerated M&A processes as more and more recognised brands face into challenging trading conditions.Lemi McAuley
