Bhieman is a Singapore-qualified lawyer. Prior to joining the firm in 2022, Bhieman worked at a leading local firm where he regularly advised and acted for various clients including shipowners, charterers, commodity trading houses and financial institutions in complex cross-border commercial disputes before the Singapore Courts and in international (ad-hoc and institutional) arbitrations. 

Bhieman specialises in dispute resolution arising from a broad range of matters involving the sale and purchase of commodities (oil and gas, petrochemical products, coal, iron ore), letters of credit, bills of lading, trade finance, and charterparties.

He also has experience in dealing with complex trade financing fraud and asset tracing, having handled several high-profile cases involving such matters in recent years.

Bhieman read law at the University of Nottingham and graduated with First Class Honours. He obtained his Master of Law at the University of Cambridge.

    • Advising and acting for a commodity trading company in a Singapore-seated ICC arbitration in respect of two long-term coal supply contracts.
    • Advising and acting for a Singapore commodity trading company in various LCIA arbitrations concerning contractual disputes for the sale and purchase of agricultural products.
    • Successfully represented a Japanese trading company in its claim against an English oil trading house in a Singapore-seated SIAC arbitration involving the sale and purchase of gasoil.
    • Advised and acted for sellers in a Singapore-seated SCMA arbitration concerning disputes in relation to a ship sale and purchase agreement.
    • Successfully acted for a Singapore commodity trading company in a SIAC arbitration seated in India involving the sale and purchase of iron ore pellets.
    • Represented and advised a consortium of international bank creditors in relation to a wide-scale USD1.5 billion fraud perpetrated by a Singapore commodity trading company.
    • Successfully represented a bank in obtaining interlocutory judgment in the Singapore High Court in its claim for misdelivery of cargo – ING Bank NV, Singapore Branch v The Demise Charterer of the Ship or Vessel “Navig8 Ametrine” [2022] SGHCR 5
    • Represented a maritime security company in defending a LMAA arbitration commenced by vessel owners for breach of a GUARDCON contract.
