Details

Monia is instructed by the NHS Resolution to act on behalf of NHS trusts dealing primarily with clinical negligence cases. In addition, she regularly lectures to clients on a mix of healthcare topics including Duty of Candour, complaints, preparing witness statements, record keeping and preparing for trial. Monia also leads on arranging the firm’s NHS Resolution claims and patient safety forums inviting experts and representatives from the NHS Resolution to discuss topical issues and facilitates the North West Litigation Group meetings.

Monia deals mainly with high value, maximum severity clinical negligence cases including brain injuries, spinal injuries and amputations. She previously dealt with the litigation side of the inquest funding cases which often involved Human Rights Act issues and attracted press interest and have been heavily involved in the Morecambe Bay maternity cases which included still birth cases, neonatal deaths and brain injured babies. Monia was also involved in the reported case of Ellison -v-University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (2015) EWCH 366 (QB) where liability was admitted but the court clarified the law on various areas of quantum.

Monia was educated in Canada having obtained a bachelor of arts honours degree in French literature and language. She then moved to Manchester and obtained a LLB (honours) degree and completed her LPC in Guilford.
