Richard Cooper

Richard is a marine manager in the Piraeus office with a broad international experience advising on shipping matters. He has a particular focus on marine casualty and commercial shipping litigation matters.

Details

Richard acts for shipowners, P&I Clubs, marine insurers and salvors in relation to both ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ matters. Richard joined Hill Dickinson in 2023 after working at other international shipping law firms in both London and Australia.

Richard’s ‘wet’ experience includes having investigated and advised clients on vessel collisions, groundings, and salvage matters. Richard’s broad commercial shipping litigation experience, having advised on charterparty, cargo claims, marine insurance, and carriage of goods by sea disputes.

Richard’s non contentious experience includes advising on charterparty terms and Australian shipping regulatory issues.

Richard has experience handling legal proceedings in a range of jurisdictions, including the English High Court, Australian state and Federal courts and arbitration proceedings under LMAA, LOF and SIAC rules.

Richard has obtained an LLB from the University of Adelaide and an MSc in Shipping from the University of Plymouth. Richard is a qualified solicitor in both Australia and New Zealand.
