  • FAQs

Can I remove statements about me online which are untrue?

Yes, you can take legal action against the person making the comments and once a Court decision has been made, social media platforms must remove them. Often, it is not necessary to go to Court and the statements can be removed through correspondence and swift action.

I have been contacted by a journalist who is going to publish a story about me / my business, what can I do?

Don’t be drawn into giving a comment and take legal advice straight away. There are a number of options available, depending on the facts. It may be possible to stop the article being published entirely, or as a minimum, ensure that it is factual and you have your chance to respond.

Can the reputation of a business be protected by law?

Yes, companies enjoy the benefit of defamation law in much the same way as individual people. For certain businesses, the business’ reputation can be its most valuable asset and it is vital to protect it.
