Death in prison custody: a Coroner’s perspective
Death in prison custody: a Coroner’s perspective
In this webinar we discuss death in prison custody inquests, where we are joined by Scott Matthewson, Assistant Coroner for Kent Mid and Medway. Scott has dealt with more than 80 Article 2 jury cases either as a barrister (acting for prisons and their healthcare providers) or as a coroner. At this webinar we will hear about death in prison custody inquests from a coroner’s perspective, including an insight into how these types of inquests are investigated by the coroner, what evidence is important, common themes that arise and observations on witnesses and how best to give evidence in a way that is helpful to the coroner. This will be illustrated with examples from Scott’s experience as both a barrister and coroner. At the end of the presentation, there will be the opportunity to put questions to Scott.
