Adrian’s work in the international arbitration arena has been recognized in Legal 500 (leading individual 2014 to 2018) and in Chambers and Partners since 2012 ‘an outstanding lawyer with a highly commercial approach to problem solving.’(2019 edition). Prior to joining the firm, Adrian was an arbitration partner in an international US firm and he was, until 2016, head of the London office of another international US firm.

Adrian has represented clients in high-value and complex international arbitration cases for more than 20 years, both under institutional rules(including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA)) and ad hoc.

Adrian has handled arbitrations connected with South Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean and Russia. He has represented investors in arbitrations arising out of Bilateral Investment Treaties and in contractual claims, against states on three continents.

In the financial services sector, Adrian represents banks and has been involved in a number of shareholder disputes and acted in a number of cases involving hedge funds.

He is a former barrister, with higher rights of audience in all courts.

Adrian graduated from the University of Durham and was Called to the Bar in 1994. He was admitted as a solicitor in 2001.

    • Represented a European pharmaceutical company in a $200 million LCIA arbitration concerning an alleged breach of a licence
    • Represented a Kuwaiti company in an ICC arbitration concerning a $40 million dispute amongst shareholders arising out of a African port project
    • Represented a South African mining company in an LCIA arbitration claim for $200 million concerning the toll-refining of platinum
    • Represented a South American company in an ICC arbitration against a Caribbean government claiming $60 million under shareholders’ agreement

    • Advised a multinational company on rights arising out of Bilateral Investment Treaties in connection with assets in an African jurisdiction
    • Advised a company on enforcement of an award against a state
    • Acted for an oil company in an LCIA arbitration with a counterparty in an African country
    • Acted for a Middle Eastern entity in a dispute over a carried interest in an oilfield, involving several interlocutory hearings on a freezing order
    • Represented a Middle Eastern petrochemical company in an ICC arbitration involving a $170 million dispute with a refinery
