Details

Ian routinely advises ship owners/operators, P&I Clubs and H&M Insurers in relation to their respective interests in marine claims. While negotiated settlements are generally the preferred solution, Ian has considerable experience in mediation, arbitration and High Court proceedings. During the course of his legal career to date, Ian has spent a number of years working in London, Athens and Singapore.

Ian specialises in the investigation of all types of marine claims, advising on the initial casualty response and all aspects of the resolution of the subsequent claims. Although his particular focus has been collision and salvage claims, Ian also advises on charterparty and insurance disputes which arise from technical issues such as machinery failures, fire, cargo damage and so on.

Ian has a B.Sc. (Hons) in Nautical Studies from the University of Plymouth where he specialised in Naval Architecture. After commencing his legal career in early 1992 as a Marine Manager and Casualty Investigator, Ian qualified as a solicitor in 2000.

Ian is based jointly out of our Piraeus office and our London (City) office.
