Janice Lee is one of the two ship finance partners at Hill Dickinson’s Hong Kong office. She is also a notary public.

Details

She is an asset finance lawyer who advises prominent PRC clients on ship and aviation finance matters. Janice has extensive experience in structured financing particularly in sale and lease back transactions. She has also advised major asset companies on container financing transactions including JOLCOs. 

Janice is a dual qualified solicitor in Hong Kong and England and Wales.

Janice is also a Notary Public and a ranked lawyer in Legal 500 as well as Chambers and Partners.

Structured finance, in particular, sale and leaseback transactions, is the area that Janice specialises in. She regularly acts for PRC based finance lessors as well as international ship owners in transactions, some of whom are listed conglomerates in the industry. Having obtained her Notary Public licence in 2020, Janice is able to provide a one-stop service for her clients in ship finance matters.

Having completed her high school education in the UK and her LLB at University College London, Janice returned to Hong Kong where she obtained Postgraduate Certificate in Laws at The University of Hong Kong. She then sat the notary public exam in Hong Kong in 2019 and qualified as a Notary Public in 2020.

  • Experience

    • Acted as leading counsel for a major Chinese leasing company on the sale and leaseback of two 162,000m3 ice breaking LNG carriers with a Greek shipowner. The aggregate loan amount was around US$363,800,000. The vessels are each being employed for a high profile LNG project.
    • Acted as leading counsel for a major Chinese leasing company on the sale and leaseback of a fleet of 51 vessels with a French shipowner as well as the multi-tiered structured financing in relation to the acquisition. The total value of the vessels exceeds US$900 million.
    • Advised a major Chinese leasing company on the sale of certain ship-leasing portfolio to another major Chinese leasing company.
    • Advised a major Chinese leasing company on the sale and leaseback of four Boeing 737-800 commercial aircraft with a major Chinese airline with an aggregate loan amount of approximately US$207 million and the subsequent refinancing of the aircraft.
    • Advised a European private wealth bank on the financing and refinancing of various business jets owned by high net worth individuals.
