Olga Newman

Olga joined Hill Dickinson in January 2020 from another top-rated City firm where she specialised in Structured Trade Finance. Before that she had a more generalist role within the Energy and Resources department enabling her to build a sound understanding and appreciation of the industry sector.

Olga is an experienced senior associate (8+ PQE) and is recognised for her strong technical skills relating to financial matters and the ability to form a strategic view from the outset as she appreciates her clients’ commercial objectives. Her practice covers the following:

  • Drafting and negotiating bilateral and syndicated facilities.
  • Security instruments and advice on perfection of security (including warehouse financing, bills of exchange, promissory notes, pledges over documents and goods).
  • Contractual liens.
  • Documentary credits (including structured letters of credit), standby credits and guarantees (UCP; ISBP;URDG).
  • Tri-partite agreements between traders, brokers / members and financing banks.
• Structured trade finance
  • Pre-export finance.
  • Prepayment finance (including complex offtake structures and hybrid security).
  • Stock/inventory finance (SMA/CMAs).
  • Repo financing structures.
  • Borrowing base finance.
• Supply chain financing
  • Receivables finance (including complex hybrid agreements).
  • Payables financing.
  • Forfaiting.
  • Factoring.

Olga also assists clients on contentious matters under GAFTA, FOSFA, LCIA and the ICC rules, including emergency response, advice on merits and support during proceedings. She assists multinational commodities houses and independent traders with drafting and reviewing sale and purchase contracts, standardised template drafting and reviews of general terms and conditions in the soft and energy markets.

Olga obtained an MA in Business (Legal Practice Course with Business).
