Unmarried couples who live together have very limited rights and responsibilities towards each other if their relationship breaks down, and despite popular opinion to the contrary, there is no ‘common law’ legal protection. However there are steps that cohabiting couples can take to protect themselves so that they are in a better situation should the unexpected happen. Watch the video created by Resolution to raise awareness about the lack of rights for cohabitating couples.
