Hill Dickinson celebrates double win at Liverpool Legal Awards 2015

International law firm Hill Dickinson LLP has won the Commercial Law Award and Dispute Resolution Award at the Liverpool Law Society Legal Awards 2015. More than 300 members of the legal profession attended the awards ceremony on Friday night (15 May 2015) at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. 

The awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of the society’s member firms and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to legal services or shown excellence in innovation or client service.

The Dispute Resolution Award was collected by partner and Liverpool team head, Fiona Parry. Speaking at the awards, Fiona said: “Hill Dickinson has a fantastic team of commercial litigators, all of whom are delighted and honoured to have been presented with this award, having also received the award last time around in 2013. It is testament to the great work carried out by the team, year on year, in acting for some of the region’s largest businesses and in “exporting” legal excellence to our national client base and to our international clients.”

Clients of the dispute resolution team include; Stobart Group, Cammell Laird, Costcutter and Johnsons Cleaners. 

The judges acknowledged: “Hill Dickinson demonstrated evidence of leadership, initiative, innovative thinking, excellent client service and first rate delivery in the provision of dispute resolution services. The judges particularly recognised their work in challenging and complex environmental disputes.

“They have continued to demonstrate strong links with clients regionally and nationally, and have shown real innovation in offering alternative methods of funding litigation.”

Corporate partner, Sue Russell, collected the Commercial Law Award, which recognises the combined efforts and achievements of the corporate, commercial and banking teams.

Commenting on the award win, Sue said: “This award recognises a team effort by a great group of people, all of whom I am proud to call colleagues. We couldn’t win awards like this without clients trusting us to do their legal work, and whilst many of those clients are based in the Mersey region, many well-known names have no association with Liverpool other than that they bring their legal business here which is testament to the quality of the team and the services we deliver.”

The commercial team has worked on several high value deals and transactions over the past 24 months, including; advising CRH on its acquisition of €6.5bn of assets from Holcim and Lafarge, advising Stobart Group on strategic transport and distribution division disposal and acting for Billington Group on its acquisition of TSC Foods.

The judges commented that: “Hill Dickinson’s international reputation in relation to commercial legal service and yet as a firm boast its origins within this city thus enhancing this region, a factor which was important to the judges. Their client base is hugely varied and impressive, handling clients with multi-million pound turnovers and delivering a breadth of transactional advice and legal services for business. In a highly competitive market for this type of work, Hill Dickinson continues to stand out as a beacon and yet does not rest on its laurels, with a commitment to professional development for its own staff as well as a willingness to contribute to law training for secondary and tertiary education students.”

Hill Dickinson also won the Commercial Law Award at the Liverpool Law Society Legal Awards in 2011 and 2013.
