International law firm Hill Dickinson has been named Legal Partner of the Year at the prestigious 2016 Claims Excellence Awards. The firm’s legacy team, comprising abuse and disease, collected the award at a ceremony held at The Brewery, London on Wednesday night (4 May).

The Claims Excellence Awards, hosted by Insurance Times, is one of the most prestigious events in the insurance industry calendar, recognising and celebrating the efforts of claims teams and individuals across the industry.

The highly coveted award was collected by partners Lisa Fletcher (disease) and Alastair Gillespie (abuse).

The judges praised the team’s high level expertise in the defence of occupational disease and abuse claims were they have acted on a number of significant precedent-setting cases in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. The judges were also particularly impressed with the team’s exemplary client retention rates over a substantially long period of time.

The award win follows a double awards success at last week’s Modern Claims Awards where the legacy team was also awarded ‘highly commended’ in their shortlisted category, Legal Team of the Year. Senior associate Hayley Riach from the firm’s retail group won the Rising Star Award for her outstanding achievements and remarkable results for clients in demanding market conditions at the same event.

Commenting on the team’s awards success Ruth Lawrence, head of the firm’s insurance business group, said: “The two award wins highlight the expertise of our legacy team led by Lisa and Alastair. It’s pleasing to see their work and excellent client care being rewarded.”
